Winemaker Notes: 100 % Bosche Vineyard, Located west of Hwy. 29, on the famed Rutherford Bench, the Bosché vineyard has very deep gravelly soils. A seasonal creek crosses the vineyard which causes the water table to be high in the spring, providing water and nutrients for new shoot growth. As veraison approaches the water table drops, stressing the vines and intensifying the dark velvety fruit flavors. This is a natural area to grow Bordeaux varietals with dry farming or minimal drip irrigation.

Production Notes: The cool wet winter continued into the spring, delaying bud break, flowering and fruit set by at least two weeks. The set was low, with a lower than average crop size in general. The summer temperatures were below normal as well, prolonging the growing cycle, delaying veraison and harvest. There was a two day heat spike in mid August that caused sunburn damage which unfortunately cost us some of the fruit. The sunburnt fruit was separated on the vine or on the sorting table. The harvest was delayed, yet had plenty of time to achieve maturity before the rains arrived.

Tasting Notes: Dark ruby in color, the 2010 Bosche has sweet black cherry aroma with integrated oak spice and black fruits. The complexity in the nose expresses green olive, aromatic cedar, walnut meat, mushroom and dark chocolate. The flavor is big, voluptuous, soft and velvety, with rich great depth of black fruit. The tannins are well integrated providing a very long fruitful finish.
